Statistical Analysis for Business and Economics

This project has three aspects: • Research on some important business or economic issue • Hands-on work in which you get personally acquainted with that issue • A written report and turned in to me Select a set of at least three distinct variables to analyze a relationship that is of interest to you. Please see me soon if you are unsure about your research question and/or variables to choose. • Your final analysis should ultimately be guided by a coherent research question and hypothesis: what do you expect the relationship to be? Why? • While the assignment is open-ended to allow you to explore your particular interest in topics related to business or economics, you should have a well delineated question that is both amenable to using the techniques learned in the course and also attainable before Dec 17, 2020. • If you choose to select one or more variables from other sources, please contact the instructor as soon as possible to ensure that the data you have collected will work for this project. • Keep it simple! Try to keep your topic as specific as possible. This will make it easier on you. Guideline for final research paper: Your final paper should include the following four components, which should be completed progressively throughout the course: 1. Introduction and Hypothesis: This section should include an introduction of the subject matter and your research question, as well as why it is important or relevant. Be sure to include your hypothesis or thesis statement. That is, what are the results you expect to get? Note: The introduction should be brief – about 1-page long. Need to know: Chapter 9 2. Descriptive Statistical Analysis: This section will provide an overview of your key variables. You should be presenting tables and graphs as appropriate to given essential information about your data. These should include measures of central location and measures of dispersion. Each table or graph should be explained and the main points discussed in the context of your research question. You should include a summary statistics table as well. Need to know: Chapter 2 and 3. 3. Inferential Statistical Analysis: In this section you will use inferential statistical analysis to test your hypothesis. Start by clearly explaining the techniques that you used. Present your results in a clear, well-formatted table. This should be followed by a discussion of what these results reveal about your hypothesis. Need to know: Chapter 14. 4. Conclusion: Conclude your paper with a discussion wrapping up your findings – Did the analysis support your hypothesis? Can your conclusions be generalized or are they specific to this particular case? What might be some areas for future research? Formatting: • Your final paper should be approximately 10 pages in length (1 inch margins, double-spaced, 12-font). Please note that this DOES NOT mean that those ten pages can just be filled up with tables and graphs. While these will take up some room, you should also have significant discussion about the data and analysis presented. • You will also need to submit all the tables and figures in a separate excel file. • Be sure to include title page and page numbers
