Poor Alan! After his claim is settled, he invites a few close friends over for dinner. As his guests are leaving for the evening, one of them trips and falls down the stairs leading to the sidewalk. It does not appear that the person is injured too badly but, just to be safe, Alan takes his guest to the emergency room. She is released to go home later that night so things appear to be just fine. Two days later, Alan gets a call from the law firm representing his injured guest, and the attorney states that they will be filing a claim seeking both special and general damages.  a.
