Chart of Important Information About Your Site (10 points) Create a chart that includes the following information IN THIS ORDER about your site: – name of the site – dates when site was created and used – culture/civilization site belonged to – exact location (longitude and latitude) – country and nearest major cities/settlements today – how site was discovered (e.g., accidental? aerial photography? LIDAR?) – dates(s) of major excavations/study of the site – dating techniques used (e.g., C-14? thermoluminescence? obsidian hydration?) – other fields that contribute to site’s interpretation (textile analysis, palynology, geology, etc.) – name(s) of archaeologists who conducted major excavations (correlate with dates) – who created or directed creation of the site (e.g., Did a ruler have it built? Who?) – type of political organization represented by the site (band, tribe, chiefdom, state) – type of economic system of the society – total population of the civilization/society in which site existed – total population of the site itself (if it was a habitation site; if not, specify) – evidence of trade at the site (be specific: what items from where) – evidence (if any) of status differentiation – type of religion practiced by makers of the site – significant artifacts – significant features – significant ecofacts – important information about matrix (or matrices) at the site for preservation – controversies (describe in brief phrases); if none exist, please state – three sentences that summarize the significance of the site: Why is it important? Aside from the last part (3 sentences), the information in your chart can be presented using words, numbers, and phrases (not complete sentences), as appropriate. The chart should be labeled at the top (name of your site) and include two columns: the left one containing the category, and the right one containing the information.
