Instructions: Choose a topic relevant to this course. Prepare to write a five (5) page research paper not including the cover page and reference page; APA reference format is required. Your paper will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Thesis & Introduction: When developing and thinking about writing a paper, ask yourself: Why is this paper important? Why do I want to write this paper? Are you taking a position or arguing for something? Content: Do some research about your topic and identify the issues that are relevant. Are there other similar studies that inform your topic? Findings & Discussion: What did you find and learn after researching and writing your paper? Are there policies, laws you want to change or recommendations you want to make for the future? Conclusion: Remind readers why you wrote this paper and summarize key highlights of your paper that readers should think about. Writing Mechanics: Is the paper well organized, does it have a good chronological order that sounds smooth while reading paragraph to paragraph, how is the grammar, spelling, spacing, references by using APA format, and does it have a separate title page, bibliography? A minimum of three scholarly references are required Sample topics may include: Any aspect of civil law vs criminal law and why both are needed? The Charter of Rights and Freedoms: has it made an impact on Canadian society? Battered Wife Syndrome: Is it a real defense? Drunk and Negligence burning a house down? Landlord and Tenant Act: How Difficult is it to evict a tenant? Any aspect of criminal defenses-do they make our justice system better? More fair? The Defense of Criminally Not Responsible Should police be tasked with enforcing the mental health act? Do our Charter Rights protect the innocent or criminals? USE ONLY CANADIAN REFRENCES
