Field of Criminal Justice and Criminology

This assignment will be the first of a continuum and related assignments toward your final research proposal. As such students will be asked to make use of electronic databases to find peer review articles, and on the relevant discussion and reading assignments from each of the sessions to follow. The aim of this paper is twofold: first to familiarize the students with peer review journals in the field of criminal justice and criminology, and other related and relevant fields. The other one is to expose students to the variety of topics being studied in criminal justice and criminology. With this last aim in mind, students are asked to pick a topic of interest out of the topic list provided and suggest a research question and hypotheses. You may pick any topic in criminology or criminal justice that is of interest to you.  To this end, students are asked to follow the below guidelines in full.Locate five (5) peer-review journal papers (not Internet articles), on any topic that relates to health and justice, criminal behavior, and other criminological and criminal justice-related topics.  Peer-reviewed papers must be kept for future presentations.Read the above papers and write yourself a short summary of what you read. While doing so try to acknowledge the below direction topics:Who are the authors of the study and what year was it published in?What are the aims/ questions of the study? How big/small is the sample understudy? Does this sample size look sufficient? What is the research design as appears in the paper (i.e. exploratory, experimental, quasi-experimental, longitude study, etc.)What type of data collection method was used (i.e. survey, experiment, observation, use of psychometric tools tassess, etc.)?What are the major findings, conclusions, and recommendations for future research, if any, of the study?Try and make a note to yourselves in regard to the findings and if you believe they have positively corresponded with the aims/ questions of the study.PLEASE NOTE THE ABOVE ARE TO GUIDE YOU AND HELP YOU FOCUS ON THE IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE ARTICLES YOU READPresent a typed literature review of the above five articles. Please note that I DO NOT want to read a summary of those articles but a concise to the point literature review that integrates the ideas and findings of the articles you read. This should be a compare and contrast of different articles that have similar/ different findings on similar topics.  As a suggestion, look at how it is done in the articles you have chosen.Present your own research question/s and hypotheses. (It is highly recommended that questions will correspond to the presented literature review presented above). Research questions should be phrased clearly and cannot be answered with a simple yes/ no. Hypotheses are tentative responses to your presented research questions, what you feel will be the answer. Hypotheses should examine at least two different variables and must correspond with the main research question/s. Follow what we discussed in the linear model in terms of presenting the study aim and question and where to present the hypotheses. The paper should not be more than 3 printed pages including a reference list (all together no more than 4 pages). All papers should be double spaced, 12 point fonts, with a 1-inch margin on each side. You may submit a table with the data provided by the articles to show how you prepared your literature review (as will be explained in class). All papers should be submitted no later than Feb. 25th, 2021 at the end of the class. There will be no late submissions and no makeup assignments for this research paper.
