Finding Meaning from Meaningless

Pick a favorite tongue twister (either originally in English or translated from another language) and consider a resolution to its conundrum using the method of your choice. The pronunciation of this entire tongue twister is in the second paragraph. And the translated meaning of the poem is in the third paragraph.- This should be a very creative essay. It could be story from any kind of perspective/narrative. The tongue twister/question is just a lead, the body of the essay could be totally irrelevant to the tongue twister (but still tells a story that adheres to the theme I will talk about later.)- Some background for this poem/tongue twister: Chinese is a tonal language, but this poem has taken it to an extreme. The poem uses just over 90 characters, however thy are of different Chinese characters with one sound “shi”, in different tones(there are four tones in Chinese). In the English world, we believe that tongue twisters to be performed to be read out loud, for theatrical warmup techniques, as they train pronunciation, fluency, and clarity skills. Other types of tongue twisters derive their humor from producing vulgar results only when performed incorrectly:- Old Mother Hunt had a rough cut puntNot a punt cut rough,But a rough cut punt.- But here, this tongue twister/poem in Chinese has overturned this rule. It is hard to be read out loud for any fluency/clarity training, the content/story of this tongue twister is weird/meaningless. The ending question/problem “try to explain the riddle” is kind of unexplainable. This poem will only make sense if you are able to read Chinese characters. People usually say fluent speakers of Chinese who cannot read the characters are fluent illiterate. Chinese is a tonal language in which subtle changes in pronunciation could change the meaning.[2] In Romanized script, the poem is an example of Chinese antanaclasis.[2] The poem shows the flexibility of the Chinese language in many ways, including wording, syntax, punctuation and sentence structures, which gives rise to various explanations.[3]- The poem can be interpreted as an objection to the Romanization of Chinese. The 20th-century author Yuen Ren Chao used this poem as an example to object to the use of vernacular Classical Chinese which is used less in conversational daily life—classical Chinese is more written than spoken.[4][5]- The poem is easy to understand when read in its written form in Chinese characters, due to each character being associated with a different core meaning. It could be about personal experience. remember: this is not a literary analysis, but a creative writing/prose that eventually link back to the theme and showcase what kind of person I am. Here are some of my rough ideas that I wish you to incorporate or to deliver:o This could be centered around a theme “how to find meaning in the meaningless” the tongue twister seems meaningless for an outsider because it’s just some changes of intonation, but it’s also meaningful(?) if you know the language. And one small change of intonation can make a lot of difference in the character’s meaning. It could be a story about a change in time and what you found meaningless before you now find meaningful. Or a change of place, or a change of perspective.o A story my peers wrote so you absolutely don’t need to follow this, you can write about any story you want: when I was small I went to visit my aunt who lived in rural area in China. Since I lived in a vibrant city for my whole life, I initially found that boring. And I saw this boy who loved to analyze flowers and grass. He would stare at the plants for whole day and make his analysis. That to me seems to be meaningless, but to him is meaningful.o You can literally write from any narrative. You can be a cloud/dog in your story if you want. Please be creative.- Most important: I want the majority of the essay not related to the tongue twisters content, but a creative, quirky, fun, meaningful discussion/story/anything fun format that kind of speak to the theme that I talked about. This essay should also kind of showcase some good qualities that I have such as intellectual vitality, inquisitive, passionate for learning, interests in different cultures…. (by the way I am a social justice enthusiast who want to make an impact in the world. It could be the best if you can include that. )- I want this to be well-written, with beautiful language and meaningful, thought-provoking, creative, but also shows how culturally inquisitive I am.- I can pay you more if it is well-written.
