U.S Southern Border Wall

InstructionsUsing all of the skills we have learned in this module and what you have learned in Comp I about essay structure, argument, tone, point-of-view, and working with sources, write an argumentative paper arguing one side or the other about having a complete wall at America’s southern border that separates the United States from Mexico.Remember, you are arguing either for a wall or not for a wall. Be firm in your stance and include your stance in your thesis sentence. Be sure to provide the reader with valid reasons to support your position, give specific examples and use direct quotes to support your paper’s argument.Essay length: 2-3 pages of text plus a Works Cited page.Essay format (including the Works Cited page): MLA, Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced sentences. This format will be the same for all the essays in this class.The parameters of the assignment:• Make sure you understand what you are being asked to argue.• Remember to develop a strong thesis statement—this is what you will be arguing in your paper.• You must use 1 direct quote from each of the two articles in the “Readings” folder, correctly cite these sources, and 1 direct quote from an article that you researched• As we have learned, a good argument needs to bring up at least one opposition to the thesis statement and then offer a rebuttal.• Essays should follow MLA formatting and include correct MLA citations• Remember, one paragraph = one idea or concept. Making a brief outline for yourself might help so you know what you will say before you begin.• Essay should have a clear introduction ending in a thesis statement, clear topic sentences (located clearly at the beginning of each body paragraph), focused paragraphs (that ultimately refer back to the thesis in some way), and a solid, strong conclusion.• Quoting is fine for this essay, but do not rely on too many quotes.• Your MLA citations should be 100% correct—I will check.• Please have a correct Works Cited page at the end of your paper, in the same document, but on a separate page. The Works Cited needs to be 100% correct—take the time to do it correctly.• I should easily be able to match up your two sources (and all sources) listed in the works cited with your in-text citations from your paper. I should also easily be able to look them up on either the Internet or the San Jacinto Library Databases. If I cannot find them easily, you may not earn credit.• Essays will be graded on: Clear thesis statement (address the prompt, take a stand, be clearly written), structure of the essay (strong topic sentences), substance of the essay (logical sense of argument, fullness of the argument, etc.), clarity and writing (POV, clear writing, transitions, etcetera—take time to proofread), and finally, correctness of MLA citations and whether or not you used your sources correctly
