A Video Response

The instructions for completing the video response are in the lesson and are the same as Video Response 1. These instructions detail the simplest way to upload or record a video of yourself presenting an answer to the prompt. If you have not reviewed the instructions, review them carefully. You must record a video and audio of yourself (with your face) showing the instructions.  Topic for Song Lyrics Response: Choose a song with lyrics that you wish to analyze. It can be any song with lyrics written after 1945 with the exception of these 6 songs (in other words, you may not choose any of these six songs: DO NOT CHOOSE ANY OF THESE SONGS: They are not options for this response. 1. Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land” DO NOT CHOOSE 2. Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” DO NOT CHOOSE 3.  Sam Cooke “A Change is Gonna Come” DO NOT CHOOSE 4. John Lennon’s “Imagine” DO NOT CHOOSE 5. Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” DO NOT CHOOSE 6. Blackeyed Peas “Where is the Love?” DO NOT CHOOSE 7. Michael Jackson and others “We are the World” DO NOT CHOOSE Once you’ve selected a song with lyrics from after 1945 other than the 6 listed above, analyze the lyrics using at least 3 of the following elements. Connect the elements to the overall topic and theme of the song. Be sure to analyze the song lyrics and not a video or performance and use only your own analysis and not someone else’s analysis you found online, which would be plagiarism. Analyze the song lyrics that you chose using at least 3 of the following elements: character conflict theme setting tone mood (be sure not to confuse tone and mood!) alliteration simile metaphor imagery Discuss how the elements work together in the song. You can review the elements by reviewing the presentations on Elements of Fiction (Lesson 2) and Elements of Poetry (Lesson 3) or by using the glossary in the course menu. Prepare your response ahead, but do not simply read off a piece of paper. It’s okay to refer to notes or lyrics! You must record your video following the instructions and using the required technology, and you must present yourself providing the answer on the video and the audio and not a screen without your face. Refer to specific lyrics in your response. Your response should be 4-6 minutes long. Do not refer to outside sources on the song. Your words and ideas must be your own. If you use another person’s analysis, you will be plagiarizing. The penalty for plagiarism is failure for the course. Analyze the lyrics and what the viewer sees in a performance or video. Your video must be submitted correctly and on time. Plan ahead to solve technical problems by the deadline. If you do not see a yellow exclamation point under My Grades on this assignment, that’s one sure sign you haven’t submitted correctly. You likely missed the step to go “Back to Browse and Embed” which shows you how to select and submit your video (see final steps in the process.) If you simply record the video but don’t select and attach to this assignment, I won’t be able to see it. Once you can see the yellow exclamation point, click on it and make sure your video is also showing up there for you.
