Academy of Management Journal
Purpose: To gain exposure to the academic literature in the management field while applying critical thinking and analytical skills. Select an article from one of the Academy of Management journal’s and write a critical 5-6 page critical review relating the article’s content to our course topics: 1. Briefly summarize the article. Then ‘critique’ the article by critically examining the work (i.e., are there shortcomings or omissions?) 2. Indicate how this article fits with our course (e.g., topics, text chapters). 3. Explain what the article might mean to you as a manager. 4. Put your references at the end. Cite your article and two other sources on the topic of your chosen article. 5. Submit via Turnitin.com (see submission link at the bottom the of this page). I’d suggest picking an article that is of interest to you. The Academy of Management Executive and the Academy of Management Review might be good places to start (the Academy of Management Journal has traditional ‘academic’ (empirical) research but there are also some interesting items). Here is the link to the Quick Find search box https://www.iona.edu/libraries. Scroll down the page to see the Quick Find search. Enter ‘academy of management’ and Submit. All of the journals of the Academy of Management will appear: AoM Journal; AoM Review; AoM Executive; AoMLeaning & Education. You can peruse recent volumes (e.g., 2019, 2020) to find an article that you find appealing. Important: Please select a full article and not a book review. Then email me the citation so I know what you are working on.
